Esi Tawia Addo-Ashong is a seasoned Barrister at Law with over three decades of experience in providing legal advice and services in Ghana. In March 2022, she was appointed Chairperson of the Stanbic Bank Board of Directors, where she brings her expertise in law and governance to the table.
Mrs Addo-Ashong is the Managing Partner of Ashong Benjamin and Associates, a leading law firm in Accra. She has advised on significant mining projects and transactions, where she has provided counsel on licensing and regulatory issues and drafted and negotiated agreements for the sector. In addition, she has developed anti-corruption programs for corporations, ensuring compliance with the UK Bribery Act, the FCPA, and Ghanaian laws on corruption.
Mrs Addo-Ashong’s career began in 1989 at Sey and Co. Law Office before moving to Integrity Financial Services in 1994. She later became the Manager for Legal Services at Deloitte and Touche and subsequently assumed the role of Managing Director at Dehands Services (the company secretarial wing of Deloitte and Touche). In 2002, she became the Head of Legal and Company Secretary at SIC Company Limited before joining Newmont Ghana Gold Limited in 2007 as the Director of Legal and Government Relations.
Mrs Addo-Ashong’s academic qualifications include a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Law and Political Science from the University of Ghana, where she was called to the Bar in 1989. She has also studied Leadership Cohort Program at the University of Denver and Mining Agreements at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Additionally, she participated in a short course on Mining Agreements at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.
Mrs Addo-Ashong is a director on the board of New Horizon Special School, and her appointment to the Stanbic Board in 2020 attests to her competence and experience in corporate governance.
